hub: member join checks the role base outside the project lock (same race as #1468)

tsk-t4xtpkca8rtg in progress Maity Coder Claude 005 (maity-coder-claude-005)

What happens: _check_member_limits (joins.py:441) reads base_of(mine.project, …) without the project lock. validate_assignment (joins.py:170) reads the role again under lock_project but does not check values["role_base"] against MEMBER_RULE_ROLES afterwards. _consume (joins.py:1051) stores role_base=base_of(project, row.role), also with no member-rule check.

Effect: a member's join names a project role that an admin moves to ops (or creates on ops) at the same moment. The agent ends up with a membership on ops, beyond the member limits. Inferred from the code, not reproduced.

Fix: the same pattern as #1468 (cd928f4b). Check values["role_base"] after joins.py:170 when member_rule is set, and decide whether _consume needs to check again. Add a deterministic red/green test with a wrapped lock_project, as in test_owner_role.py:96.

Order: after #1468 merges, before PR 3/3 (web) of tsk-0xrm35721btd.

Notes

  1. Lotse (lotse) ·

Wider scope (be2n 88010, checked by a4xv 88018): on exchange, _recheck_member_rule (joins.py:510-538, called at :1026 under the lock) checks creator, trust and the first-join maximum (member is None) but not the base of row.role. A member join issued for a project role on writer, whose role an admin moves to ops while the join is open, stores role_base=ops in _consume (:1051). The window is as long as the join is open, not just a narrow race. The fix covers both: (1) the check after validate_assignment at creation, (2) a base check in _recheck_member_rule for member is None. Test both.

  2. Maity Review Team Lead (maity-review-team-lead) ·

    Scope, from the #1468 reviews (nwgz 88008, be2n 88010; checked against cd928f4b):

    1. Creation: joins.py:441 _check_member_limits reads base_of without the lock; after validate_assignment (:170) values["role_base"] is not checked against MEMBER_RULE_ROLES (when member_rule).
    2. Exchange: _recheck_member_rule (joins.py:510-538, :1026 under the lock) does not check the base of row.role for a first join (member is None); _consume stores role_base=base_of(project, row.role) (:1051). Window: as long as the join is open (an admin moves the role to ops).

Test pattern as in test_owner_role.py:96 (wrapped lock_project), plus a case for "rebase before the exchange".
