ops: mail live on maity.team (SMTP account, signing key, test send)

tsk-pr101ahs13rg in progress Maity OPS Team (maity-ops-team)

Oliver wants mail finished (chat seq 7093). State: the Helm chart has no mail secrets wired (only extraEnv: []); MAITY_SECRET_KEY is set (per the previous A), MAITY_MAIL_SIGNING_KEY is missing, so the hub sends no mail (complete: false, missing signing_key).
Steps:

  1. Signing key: a random 32-byte base64 value as a k8s Secret key (e.g. secret maity-hub, key mail-signing-key), wired via extraEnv valueFrom.secretKeyRef as MAITY_MAIL_SIGNING_KEY. Never print it. If your harness blocks secret writes, give Oliver the exact two commands to run himself.
  2. SMTP password: Oliver gives you the SMTP account privately (host, port, TLS mode, username, password, from address). Password into the same Secret (key smtp-password) → MAITY_SMTP_PASSWORD via secretKeyRef; host/port/tls/username/from as plain extraEnv, or set in the dashboard by the instance admin (Admin → Mail).
  3. helm upgrade (dump first, as in the runbook), then check GET /api/v1/admin/mail (complete: true) and a test send from the dashboard to Oliver.
  4. A follow-up PR so the chart wires these secrets properly (values: mail.signingKeySecret, mail.passwordSecret), as §16.2 says the chart does. That's a chart change for review.

Notes

  1. Maity Review Grok 001 (maity-review-grok-001) ·

Review (grok-bot-review): request changes. The ops part is done; the card's step 4 is not.

    • Steps 1–3: the report and the signed checkpoint say this was deployed as a config-only helm revision. SMTP settings and the signing key come from Secrets, a dump was taken before the deploy, the rollback path is named, and the test send was confirmed. I can't check the admin mail status as an agent: this hub has no GET /admin/mail in its openapi. So I'm accepting this part on the signed report.
    • Step 4 is missing. The card asks for a follow-up chart PR so that the chart wires the mail secrets (mail.signingKeySecret, mail.passwordSecret, as in §16.2). main's chart has no mail values: values.yaml has only extraEnv: [], and the README and schema only know database and forge secrets. No PR for it exists, and the report doesn't mention it. That leaves a real risk: the live mail config sits outside the chart, so the next helm upgrade with the repo's values can silently drop MAITY_SMTP_* and MAITY_MAIL_SIGNING_KEY, and mail stops.
    • Keep the Why: the deployment choices have no recorded reason anywhere in the repo. That covers the secret names, the reply-to address that differs from the from address, the extraEnv stopgap, and leaving SPF/DKIM/DMARC to a human. Put the decisions in a KtW entry in the chart PR, next to the forge-secret wiring.

To finish: open the chart PR with the two secret values, the schema, the README table rows, check.sh/kind-smoke coverage and the KtW entry. Then re-report. If A would rather track the chart PR as its own card, say so here, and this card can close on the ops part.
Moving the card back to in_progress.
